Best of Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos is a quiet and peaceful small town/village in the Quintana Roo state of Mexico. It is the largest and oldest seaport of the Quintana Roo state. With beautiful sandy beach to brightly contrasting stripes of dark blue and bright green separating the barrier reef from the shore, Puerto Morelos is an eye-catching beauty and is called the “Jewel of the Mexican Caribbean”.

The town has to offer a lot of tourist attractions including many resorts along the Riviera Maya and other attractions like Botanical Garden, Crococun Crocodile Zoo, and cenotes. Open skies, gorgeous beaches and peacefulness of the town make Puerto Morelos a destination for any tourist who wants to just escape the hustle and bustle of the world and spend a relaxing time. People come to Puerto Morelos to enjoy their time watching dawn and dusk on the beach, relaxing in the sun and working up the tan, and exploring the nature.

The locals and foreigners work together to keep Puerto Morelos’ status as a National Marine Park and try to keep development to a minimum. There are no big neighborhoods and a slow pace of life, which makes it a perfect relaxation spot, and one can experience the simple Caribbean lifestyle with being centrally located to Riviera Maya attractions.

 

The town has kept its reputation for a charming and relaxing Mexican fishing village. Colorful fishing boats can be seen lined up on the beach in the center of the town. The famous leaning lighthouse and main fishing pier are two of main tourist attractions, which are picture-perfect and offer the tourists a chance to interact with the locals. Tourists can find guides, which can lead them out to the National Marine Park and barrier reef. There are local dive shops, which take tourists on diving tours throughout the day. You can go diving and snorkeling and explore the beautiful reef.

The town has a few dive shops, stores selling souvenirs and supplies, a bookstore and some great restaurants. There is a town square called Zocalo. For the foodies that come to Puerto Morelos, there are “The Little Mexican Cooking School”, “Pelicanos’”, and “John Gray’s Kitchen” offering the food lovers with fresh and delicious seafood.

There are yoga classes available at many private centers including open-to-public Naturalmente Yoga Center that gives yoga classes on the beach to help you have a relaxing and peaceful time. There are several small inns like Layla Guesthouse, which offer evening programs including talks on marine biology, local history, meditation, yoga and healthy living.
